In July 2016, Charlie Airlines Ltd, won a tender competition for the right to use the national carrier trademark Cyprus Airways for a decade, signing a corresponding agreement with the Ministry of Finance of Cyprus.
Cyprus Airways operates flights to Europe and the Middle-East with a team of over 100 passionate people based at Larnaca International Airport. All Cyprus Airways flights operate on Airbus A319 aircraft with a capacity of 144 Economy Class seats.
In July 2018, Cyprus Airways has successfully passed the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Operational Safety Audit (IOSA), one of the highest standards in the world for airline operational safety. In October 2018, the company became a member of the International Air Transport
In April 2021, Cyprus Airways was acquired by the SJC Group, a Maltese group with operations across Africa and the Middle East, incorporating a number of different activities including helicopter commercial flight operations and maintenance from dedicated hangars within Malta International Airport. The SJC Group maintains a fleet of private aircraft to provide emergency services in remote parts of the world. The company is also a leading provider of fire, safety, and security services.
The company’s long-term goal is to contribute in the increase of tourism in Cyprus, while at the same time broadening the horizon for local travelers.
