On the 5th of January 1921, the decree No. 1061, according to which the General security was established, is issued. This institution is called the First Office at that time.
On the 19th of February 1923, the decree No. 1768 is issued. Pursuant to this decree, the Police force is reorganized in Lebanon, including the Judicial Police and the General Security.
On the 19th of May 1927, the decree No. 1767 is issued. In conformity with this decree, the guidelines, by which the General Security operates, are regulated.
On the 27th of August 1945, the decree No. 3845 is issued. Pursuant to this decree, the Ministry of Internal Affairs established the Directorate of the General Security located in Beirut. This institution is under the supervision of the above-referenced ministry, and is
On the 26th of July 1951 the decree No. 5516 is issued, according to which, the role of the General Security was extended.
On the 4th of April 1953, and the 15th of January 1955, two legislative decrees No.61 and No.19 are issued. Pursuant to both decrees, the General security is reorganized: some departments are canceled, while others are established.
On the 12th of June 1959, the Legislative decree No. 139 that remains currently effective is issued. Pursuant to this decree, the General Security becomes a General directorate under the supervision of the ministry of internal affairs, chaired by a general director.
On the 16th of December 1959, the executive order No. 2873 is issued, according to which, the general directorate of the General security includes henceforth in addition to the central administration, regional departments, but also aerial, maritime or frontier departments
